Out of touch, poorly paced, and never truly scary, the movie is a slog that makes you feel frustrated that someone got paid to write it.

Where the original Texas Chain Saw is a heart-stopping look into what lies beneath the surface of the world we know, Netflix’s new film, titled simply Texas Chainsaw Massacre, is a series of softball pitches that miss every mark.

“Something that was new to me was how to film all the gore - which Fede Alvarez, the producer, really helped me with,” Garcia said. While it wasn’t a horror film, Garcia says “Tejano” and “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” actually have some interesting thematic similarities. He co-wrote and directed his first feature film, “Tejano,” in 2018. Garcia is a Harlingen native who has been living in Austin since graduating from film school at the University of Texas at Austin.
